Being left alone with a child is a huge responsibility!

√ Have a list of emergency contacts (phone numbers)

• Child's pediatrician
• Cell phone number for parents
• Where parents will be
• Any close relatives who may live nearby
• Last resort: familiar neighbor

√ Lists from parents:

• Emergency contacts (as mentioned above)
• The child's favorite items such as• Books • Movies • TV Shows • Foods • Toys • Games
• Dislikes • Allergies
• Bed/nap times
• Their normal punishments (in the rare case of bad behavior)

√ Never threaten a child

• Of course never hurt anybody
• If you have to question it, Don't do it

√ Keep an eye on the child at ALL times

• Take messages if people call
• Do not answer the door
• Do not have friends over
• Keep doors locked
• Do not keep phone lines tied up

It is nice to purchase a few small toys or books if you babysit on a regular basis. Bringing something new for a child to do often distracts the child and eases the fear when parents leave a small child with a sitter. Remember to wash the items with hot soapy water after you get home for the next child who will get to use them.
